Pulling the bench out from tables is effortless with the grooved handles hidden along the under-edges of the seat. Handcrafted in the Hokkaido region of Japan, the stool exemplifies the traditional Japanese technique of "fuki-urushi". By repeatedly applying lacquer and then wiping it off, the appearance of a saturated wood grain is achieved. The stool also has subtle marks of the maker’s carving tools that add to its charm and handcrafted appeal.

Ibazen Bench was curated by Stevenson Aung

Designer/Maker

Maker: Takahito Iba

Designer: Ibazen

Specifications

Dimensions: 9.25” (w) x 29.25” (l) x 16.75" (h) or 235mm (w) x 743mm (l) x 425mm (h)

Weight: 14 lbs or 6.4 kg

Materials: Oak and Lacquer

Details

Made in Japan

"Fuki-Urushi", wipe lacquer finish

Features grooved handles on the under-edges of the seat

Subtle marks from hand-carving tools are visible on the wood surfaces

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0194/5843/products/Ibazen_Oak_Stool_Featured_b7adeb9b-b20b-42d0-bb58-40d18949ec6f.jpg?v=1504795020
