Mitani’s putty-toned “white” urushi reveals subtle tool marks in the wood beneath, adding texture and honesty to the surface rather than hiding the material.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo achieve this finish, Mitani applies black urushi first, then layers white over it. With use, the white will develop fine cracks and the darker underlayer will slowly emerge.
