Their shape is a loving tribute to the paper cups from our local coffee shop—a staple of our mornings since we opened our store. We set out to faithfully reinterpret this familiar form in a single hand-turned piece of wood, aiming to capture the same feeling in our hands and on our lips. The cup’s thin edges make it light yet durable, while a subtle protective coating prevents staining, ensuring that it remains as practical as it is beautiful.

Now available in a vibrant Vermillion Urushi and White Urushi finish, these latest editions are a true testament to our collaborative spirit. The White Urushi was chosen for its elegant look, perfectly complementing a cup of coffee, while the Vermillion Urushi reflects the traditional hues of urushi lacquerware. This project has been a labor of love, a perfect example of how we thrive on working closely with makers to blend different philosophies and cultures. The result is an object that is distinctly representative of our time in New York, our relationship with Japanese artisans, and our belief that beautifully crafted items should be used and enjoyed as much as possible.

White Urushi Wood Cup was designed by Nalata Nalata

Designer/Maker

Designer: Nalata Nalata

Specifications

Dimensions:

3.1” (w) x 3.1” (l) x 3.6" (h) or 80mm (w) x 80mm (l) x 92mm (h)

Weight:

1 oz or 28 g

Materials:

Oak Wood, Urushi Lacquer

Details

Made in Japan

Turned from a single piece of solid wood

1mm thin walls

Lightweight but durable

Can hold piping hot drinks, like coffee and tea, or ice cold drinks

Exterior and interior coated with traditional urushi lacquer

Carved 'rolled rim' mimicking a paper cup

Bottom is carved out

Smooth, paper-like texture

Wash after use with soap and water using a soft sponge

Dry with a kitchen cloth after washing

Do not soak in water for prolonged periods of time

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0194/5843/files/Nalata_Wood_Cup_White_Featured_59f75fe2-ca5f-4b0a-b4f2-5599455c8256.jpg?v=1725056731
